After 43 Years, Frugal Fannie’s Iconic Westwood Store is Closing; Company Retains SB360 to Run Going-Out-of-Business Sale

Owners Kathleen and Orrin Doxer cite retirement, health considerations, and the end of their lease; A Going-Out-of-Business sale begins Thursday

WESTWOOD, Massachusetts – September 24, 2026 – Frugal Fannie’s Fashion Warehouse, one of the Boston region’s most well-known discount fashion retailers, is closing its doors after 43 years. Owners Kathleen Doxer and Orrin Doxer announced their decision to end store operations due to health considerations, key staff retirements, and end of their lease with no further options to renew. They retained SB360 Capital Partners to help run a Going Out of Business liquidation sale at the iconic Westwood store.

Serving the Greater Boston area since 1983, Frugal Fannie’s has been a favorite destination for value-conscious women across three generations. Known for its enormous no-frills warehouse store layout, Frugal Fannie’s specializes in current-season women’s fashions, offering designer and brand-name clothing, shoes, and accessories at discounted prices. Situated in an industrial park just off Route 1 on the Westwood/Norwood line, the store has built a loyal following throughout New England by providing an ever-changing selection of merchandise, making every shopping trip a unique experience.

Although closing the store was unavoidable, Ms. Doxer says the decision still feels deeply personal. “This store has been our life. Many of our employees have been with us since the early days, and they have become family. Our loyal customers have traveled near and far to shop with us for decades, and many have become friends. It is with profound sadness that we bring this brilliant chapter to a close, and we hope our customers will visit us during the final weeks of our business.”

Frugal Fannie’s Going Out of Business sale starts Thursday, September 24 at their original Westwood location. Shoppers seeking bargains on everyday apparel, outerwear, special occasion dresses, fashion jewelry, stylish accessories, home accents and more will appreciate the mix of recognizable labels, competitive pricing, and the excitement of discovering unexpected finds. With day-in, day-out prices up to 50% less than department stores, customers will now find merchandise marked down even further, offering shoppers additional savings.

“Unlike many discount retailers, Frugal Fannie’s maintained its locally-owned identity while adapting to changing retail trends. Quality fashions, exceptional value, and an extensive inventory attracted visitors from across Massachusetts and beyond,” said SB360 President Aaron Miller. “With never-before-seen savings on everything in the store, we encourage everyone to shop early during this limited-time event while selection is at its best. The compelling liquidation discounts will make this a short sale.”

About Frugal Fannie’s – Frugal Fannie’s Fashion Warehouse opened in 1983 in a leased warehouse building in Westwood, Massachusetts. Located off the beaten path, they flew under the radar offering current season brand name and designer apparel at discount prices, along with manufacturers’ closeouts and mall store buy-outs. Originally open just a few days a week, the company grew to four locations in the Greater Boston area. Following the 2001 recession, the additional stores closed while the flagship location at 24 Wilson Way in Westwood continued to thrive. As company spokesperson, Kathleen Doxer appeared as Fannie in television ads for years, promoting the store as “worth the trip” even as women described it as their “best kept secret” for dressing well on a budget. The company’s mission, reflected in its corporate name, “Retail Therapy,” has always been to create a welcoming place where women could gather and enjoy bargain shopping with their girlfriends, mothers, and daughters. Co-founders Orrin and Kathleen Doxer and their staff have also involved themselves with several philanthropic endeavors, including breast-cancer research at Beth Israel Hospital – where Kathleen is a survivor – and raising funds to support the vital work of Rosie’s Place, Boston’s shelter for women..
